Ampel Mosque
 

Ampel Mosque, site of spiritual interest, is well known in Surabaya. Behind the mosque is a cemetery of Sunan Ampel, one of the nine saints who built the mosque, which is frequently visited by Pilgrims. On the left and right way to the mosque, there are shops in where typical Arabian souvenirs are sold.

Surabaya Zoo

One of the biggest attractions in Surabaya is a large zoo. It is old and scruffy, but can display some fascinating animals, among them the famous Komodo Dragon, the biggest reptile in the world.

 Perak Harbour / Kalimas Harbour

 


Just North of the old town is Tanjung Perak, the second largest harbor in Indonesia, and inside this is the old harbor Kalimas. Here you can watch the traditional wooden sail ships called "Pinisi" load and unload their cargo as it has been done for 600 years. Originally these boats were built and sailed by the Bugis people from South Sulawesi. On the opposite side of the channel is the main base for the Indonesian navy, Angkatan Laut.

Jalesveva Jayamahe



The Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument describes a figure of a middle rank TNI- AL (Tentara National Indonesia- Angkatan Laut)/ Indonesian National Army- Navy officer wearing a complete uniform (Lenue PDU-1) looking to the direction of the sea, representing a next generation full with certainty and determination, ready to run through the waves and the storm, to move towards the main goal, which is the National Cause of Indonesian people.

Thus, this monument also describes the "tetenger" (characteristic) of the passing on of the spirit of dedication from the previous generations who have just accomplished their duties to the next generations, which have to carry on the work. This monument, which is located on the West end of Port Madura, will also be used as a lighthouse tower for the ships, which sailing along the place.

The 30,8 meters high statue is standing on top of the 26,1 meters high building. On some part of the building, there is a diorama of heroic history of the navy since the era of physical pre-revolution up until the 90 s. This building is also functioning as an: Executive Meeting Room. Acting as the creative sculptors and architects are Drs Nyoman Nuarta and his co-workers who are joined in The Nyoman Nuarta Group.

Mount Bromo
 


Mount Bromo, a volcanic mountain in East Java, is very famous with its spectacular and the beautiful views of the sunrise panorama on its peak. Another popular feature is the remarkable and vast sand sea (covers 10 km) across which one finds the caldera of an ancient volcano (Tengger) and on which four newer volcanic cones have emerged.

The massive also includes the highest mountain in Java, Semeru. Tengger sandy area has been protected since 1919, and it is believed to be the only conservation area in Indonesia, even probably in the world possessing a unique ocean of sand at altitude about 2000m above sea level.

The annual ceremony of Kasodo ( a Hindu or, as they believe, Buddhist enclave in Islamic Java). The ceremony is usually done at midnight of every eleventh month of the Tengger calendar system (the meaning of Kasodo) on the 14th and 15th day (the event in full moon).

The fine scenery and bracing climate, easy access and reasonably visitor-oriented facilities make this one of the most popular reserves in Java.
